This blog has been discontinued. This should be my last post here. I would love it if my followers of this blog would migrate to my new blog here http://csmajor.tumblr.com/. It has a very similar subject area and I think you may even like it more. Tumblr has one major flaw right now, being that you can’t change your primary blog. Ugghh.
This Thanks Giving break I have found time in my busy schedule to work on my server. I have been taken away from this project and my other blog here on tumblr http://csmajor.tumblr.com/ because of my busy school schedule (kind of ironic). Anyway, I decided that I wanted to put Arch Linux on my server instead of Windows. I forgot that the only copy of my website’s HTML was on my server (very dumb). So I basically lost my website. I guess it’s not that big of a deal because I plan to use my server for some thing else. Although, I will try to find some of my HTML from the site and rebuild it. Then on this new site I will create a sub-section for my Shoot’em Up game. The site will be for me to host files like school work, and other files that I don’t mind the public having access to. I would just make an FTP server but for others to access it’s easier just to make it a web server. So, that’s my plan. Who knows when I will post here again, but thanks for reading.
Reblog this if you are and I’ll follow you and we can be nerds together!! :D
Here!
Too many people have been asking me how to get my game to run. Most of you that follow my tumblr are aware of the Java JRE and that it is necessary to run Java applications. Although, for those that don’t get that. I have added some slight instructions for acquiring the JRE (on the download page of my site) for Windows 32 and 64 Bit versions. For those of you that run Linux, I would really hope that you either already have the JRE installed or you know how to do it, because well, you run Linux! Oh, and for you Mac users, sorry you are on your own. =)
I spent most the day working on v1.3. I hope that everyone likes it. I spent a lot of time talking about it already, so I don’t have much to say about it. Although, I can see that there could possibly be some bugs because I have added so many things. Oh and in case you can’t figure it out on your own. If you want to reset your High Scores, delete the “High Scores” file that the game creates.
The pic speaks for itself. So, that’s all I really have to say about that. =)

Feedback is much appreciated!!!!

I don’t want anyone who is following this project to be disappointed that I have yet to release v1.3. The reason is a combination of things. First thing, this next version is going to be very very large in the sense that many things are changing. Second, working takes up a lot of my time and afterwards I don’t always feel like working more on this . Although, I am very very excited about it! I have more things added now that I had never even disclosed before because I hadn’t even thought of them at the time.
The following is everything that I currently have planned for the release of 1.3, as of now:
- An entirely new theme (no more black background) and it looks great!
- Sound effects (with mute toggle option).
- High Scores (this is holding me up).
I have the first two items on that list mostly done and I have been putting off doing the high scores. It’s going to be difficult and I need a large chunk of time to work straight through for this part. This update will change the face of this game completely and for the better (IMO).
For some reason I never went open source with this project. I am a strong advocate of open source software, so I have no reason why I never thought to release my source code.
For those of you that know what I am even talking about go ahead and download the source code for v1.2.5 (link at the top “Shoot’em Up Home”). I even took the time this evening to comment it so that you can decipher it easier =).
I know that there are some flaws in my thinking and my code could be MUCH more optimal in some areas. Maybe that is why I am hesitant to release it, because I don’t want to be criticized too much (a little is okay). Oh well.
So, this week really isn’t fun at all! I recently haven’t been in the programming mood, the movement has been changed (multiple key presses). Although, I have yet to even start adding high scores. I feel as though this multiple key press addition has made the game much easier, but while I was playing it I found that I was being more aggressive and the game was moving much faster. I think I may have to add more levels even a boss or something (possibly new characters?). I don’t know if the game really is easier now, or if I have just played it to death and could beat it in my sleep?!
All of that aside I am going to be lazy and release what I have done as v1.2.5.
p.s. I just realized that I haven’t hash tagged any of my posts *face palm*!
djbooter asked: Hey man, I'm glad to hear that you are adding multiple key touch to your game, that will improve the playability by a whole lot. I played it and I think you have done an amazing job. Did you really say you are only in second year? I can't wait until I know enough about Java to build a game like this. We haven't even done GUIs yet so it'll be a while. Keep up the good work mate. Good stuff
Yep, I just finished my second year of College. I love programming a lot though! I really hope that some day I can get a job programming! If you ever have any questions or anything about Java, or any other language, feel free to ask me. I would love to help!
